STAYS AT CONVENTO DE MÉRTOLA
Over the last 25 years, Convento de Mértola has hosted emerging and established artists, designers, writers, musicians, filmmakers, teachers, and researchers who use the Convento to work, study, start a new body of work, finish a project, or develop new ideas.
We also welcome guests seeking a retreat from the noisy world, wishing to connect with nature and immerse themselves in the quiet, stimulating environment of Alentejo.

CULTURAL AND CREATIVE STAYS
Convento de Mértola is not a hotel or holiday accommodation. Contributions are intended to support the place and its ongoing care, allowing artists, writers, researchers, and other cultural visitors to focus on work, reflection, and creative practice.
Guests enjoy private studios, access to shared workspaces, and the quiet beauty of the grounds. Encounters with other residents may happen naturally depending on the flow of the day.
Meals, shared moments, or additional studio or workspace usage can be arranged in advance, and may involve a small extra contribution.

HOW TO CONFIRM YOUR STAY
To secure a reservation, we kindly ask for a 50% deposit via bank transfer. Your booking will remain provisional until the deposit is received. Once confirmed, we will email you confirmation details.
For last-minute bookings, when a bank transfer is not possible, guests may settle the full contribution in cash upon arrival, after confirming the studio and facilities meet expectations.
This framework ensures that contributions support the ongoing care, quiet, and creative environment of Convento de Mértola, while allowing residents and guests to focus fully on their work, reflection, and connection to the site.
NATURE AND THOUGHT INTERTWINED
The Convento is not a typical holiday destination. It is a space for those who value beauty, silence and meaningful time. Here, nature, history and creativity blend into an atmosphere of calm and simplicity.
Guests stay in self-contained studios with their own kitchen and bathroom, offering the freedom to shape each day in their own rhythm. The gardens and much of the Convento complex are open to explore. Reading under ancient trees, slow walks through the landscape, or quiet reflection are part of the natural pace of life here.
While the Convento invites independence and quiet retreat, guests are welcome to request shared moments such as breakfast in the garden, a home-cooked meal, or an aperitif at sunset, if arranged in advance. Meals can be enjoyed under the spacious covered terrace overlooking Mértola, the castle, and the river, or in the privacy of the studio’s own terrace.
Encounters with other residents, artists, writers, or caretakers may happen naturally depending on the moment and the flow of the day.
This is a place for those seeking stillness, authenticity, and time to simply be.
